The Battle
The Invasion of Sicily lasted 38 days. Great Britain and the US were working together to conquer Sicily. General George Patton was the American general and General Bernard Montgomery the English general.
The invasion started on July 10,1943. The US Army set out with the air force to start the invasion. The US had an advantage in the air because the diversion ("Operation Mincemeat") had gone as planned. When they landed in Sicily, two groups of Allied Forces started sailing out to opposite sides of the coast. Later, British paratroopers arrived in strategic spots along the coast. As the Allies start to capture bridges, the actual battle begins. Hitler started to deploy soldiers to the coast, fighting back. The battle went on, both sides capturing, losing, and recapturing many things. Much did not happen until August 17,1943. That was the date when the US secured and overtook Sicily, and successfully pushed back the Axis Powers to Rome.
